6357 Longview Avenue sits next to Castle Ivar; both were built by cinematographer Ira Morgan who hired architect Nathan Coleman and contractor Bruce McCaskill to build both of the houses in 1925. Colemand and McCaskill worked on many Whitley Heights homes during the 1920s. Castle Ivar was originally a 2 story English home which was transformed into a castle decades later. Both homes are available for rent at castleivarhollywood.com. Morgan and his wife, Rena, moved into 6357 Longview Avenue after it was built and remained in the home until the mid-1940s.
In 1932, the Morgans rented this house to director David Howard (1896-1941). Howard started as an assistant director in 1919, worked with King Vidor in his early days and started directing westerns in the 1930s with actor George O'Brien, Tim Holt, starring in the films. His directing career was cut short when he died of a long illness at the age of 45 in 1941.
