Circa 1906, Vista Del Mar (Avenue) was developed in the Hollywood Dell. One of the earliest residences built on this street was that of Alfred G. Bartlett, a wealthy businessman. Bartlett called his estate "The Vista Del Mar Estate". On this property, Bartlett grew an enormous floral garden consisting of 75,000 carnations and 30,000 roses in which he opened his grounds to the public on Sundays. By 1915, the sprawling residence began to use the address of 6219 Hollywood Boulevard. The house was demolished in 1919 due to Hollywood rapidly growing; Bartlett subdivided his property into smaller lots and sold them off to real estate developers. Bartlett also had plans to build a luxurious hotel across the street but the project never got on the ground due to his death in 1923 at the age of 73.
